Who we are and what we do
What are Parish Councils
Parish, Town, Neighbourhood, Community or Village Councils in England are known colloquially as 'Local Councils'
Established by legislation in 1894, Parish Councils are the first tier of local government in England.
As an elected representative body of the local community, Parish Councils provide services to meet local needs, and improve and enhance the quality of life and well-being in the community.
The most recent Parish Council election was held in May 2023. There are also other opportunities to be involved, for example on ad hoc projects, events and volunteering so if you are interested, please contact the Parish Clerk.
Crockenhill Parish Council
Crockenhill Parish Council works on behalf of its community to improve and enhance life in our beautiful rural village. It also plays a vital role in protecting the village from inappropriate development.
Apart from the day-to-day running of the Parish, such as reporting pot holes, arranging for bins to be emptied, drains to be cleaned, recycling modules to be emptied, the Parish Council also carries out many other responsibilities.
The Parish Council owns and maintains the village street lighting, is responsible for two play areas and the grass cutting of the three parish Council-owned recreation areas including 28 acres at Harvestfield, which includes allotment and leisure areas. The Parish Council also supports local groups, organisations and charities, often pulling the various groups together to co-ordinate village events whilst keeping residents informed.
We're here to help!
The Parish Council deals with a wide variety of problems/issues that members of the public may have.
If in any doubt about whether your issue is KCC/SDC or Parish Council related, the Clerk will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
The Parish Council office is usually open for drop-ins from 9.30-11.30am Monday and Wednesday. The Clerk's working hours are Monday -Thursday 9.30-2.30pm and she can be contacted by phone or email.
Please note that when the Clerk is on annual leave there is no cover so it is advisable to ring the office before calling in. A note will be displayed on the door when the office is closed and a message posted on the homepage of this site.
We hope to speak to you soon!
Planning
Planning is one of the key issues that the Parish Council is involved in and we are notified of every planning application affecting the Parish. For those which may have a major impact, we may organise a public meeting to inform residents. The Council always comments on planning applications and is a consultee of the many KCC and SDC documents received.
Any person wishing to make representations should do so in writing by email to:
planning.comments@sevenoaks.gov.uk, via the web site or by post to the Strategic Services Direction, POL Box 183 Argyle Road, Sevenoaks, Kent TN13 1GN. In each case the planning reference number should be quoted and you must give your full name and address.
Planning applications will be published under
Planning.
SDC's Local Plan
Over the past few years, Sevenoaks District Council has been working on and consulting on their new Local Plan. The Plan outlines what can be built and where up to 2040. The plan includes proposals for new housing and employment land, and improvements to retail and infrastructure. Once finalised, the new Local Plan will be used to assess planning developments in the Sevenoaks District.
The proposals for Pedham Place and the WASPs Stadium in particular are, in our view, unfeasible and the effects such large-scale developments would have on this part of the country are far-reaching and potentially devastating for the local towns and villages. We must not lose sight of the role of the Green Belt– the aims of which include preventing neighbouring towns from merging into one another and assisting in safeguarding the countryside from encroachment. The Pedham Place and WASPs Stadium proposals are completely at odds with the very definition of Green Belt status.

CROCKENHILL is represented by Kent County Councillor, Roger Gough, Sevenoaks District Councillor Rachel Waterton
and 7 elected Parish Councillors who represent the Village, Park Gate, Petham Court, Skeet Hill and Wested. The Parish Council employs a part-time Clerk and three part-time Amenities Assistants.

Crockenhill's earliest documented history starts in 1388, when the village, or hamlet as it was then, was known as Crockern-Held, which translates as "the hill where stands a pottery kiln"
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government, working on behalf of its community to improve and enhance life in Crockenhill. There are many areas of village life that we are involved in.
The Parish Council is duty bound to publish statutory documents but we choose to be as transparent as possible in all areas of our work. We welcome your questions and are here to help.
